The extender has a protruding part, that fits into several (limited number) langer lenses (that is wat it has been designed for!); the 24-105 rear lens element si simply too close to the edge of the lens: it will clash with the protruding lens element of the (Canon) 1.4x. Only way to use an extender/converter on the 24-105 is to get a non-CanonAlways read the compatibility list before you buy a tel-con. The 2x is a bad idea even on lenses it is compatible with. IMHO, of course.
