Recently purchased a 2012 Sharan 2.0 TDI. Engine Management light and Adblue light came on whilst driving home from garage approx. 200 miles away. Went through top up procedure, reset malarkey but to no avail. Had warning lights cleared by local garage (not VAG) but this lasted 3 days.
Jan 5, 2016. #5. A 200 mile countdown is indicative of a problem with the system's ability to reduce NOx, which is humorous, given the current Dieselgate scandal. You probably have a bad NOx sensor, your injector or AdBlue pump isn't working, or your AdBlue is frozen and cannot be thawed. Scan the system for codes, and it should point you in
It refused to recognise that I had added 12 litres of Adblue, and kept counting down. The local VW dealer wanted to drop the Adblue tank and remove the level sensor, pump, etc. The new clear hose makes it easy to monitor fluid flow and makes it much easier to swap adapters for different bottle sizes! It also features an inner vent tube to speed up the filling process. This filling hose for DEF/adblue attaches to the fill port on the AdBlue/DEF tank. Comes with two adapters for the larger European (liter) bottle spout
Here is a quick video demonstrating how to refill the AdBlue reservoir on a Passat TDI. This video also shows how to refill the spill-proof bottle of fluid
Most Volkswagen dashboard warning lights use a traffic light system to give you an indication of the seriousness of the warning light: Green: the system is working correctly or is currently in use. Yellow: something is not working correctly - take extra care and check it out as soon as possible. Red: there is a serious, and potentially It sounds like a bad level sensor in the DEF (Adblue) tank, VW will only replace the whole tank. It should be covered by the Dieselgate extended warranty. Go here ( Ad Blue tank ) for more info on the problem. Spoiler - the parts are on worldwide backorder, no ETA. Seems the only factory that was making the tanks was in the Ukraine! Also have code P2196 code ( O2 signal stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1). Dealer stated: Inspected ADBlue level sensor operation and found ADBlue level sensor at times reading incorrect values. Estimate to fix ADBlue level sensor from dealer:$1087.51 for repair kit (part # 561-198-970 and urea). $402.91 for O2 sensor repair. Come to around October, the AdBlue warning light flashes with 200 miles, I make a mental note to grab some DEF and continue on home. It disappears the next time I start it up. It stays away mostly until January, where it flashes up a couple times but also swiftly goes away. Around this time I also get a CEL, P023A.
An amber recharge AdBlue light means that action is required. Roadside assistance: 0800 777 192. The amber warning will appear when the remaining range of AdBlue is approximately 1,000 miles. This warning is repeated every 31 miles and is accompanied by an audible tone. If these warnings are not acted upon, the warning turns red; once this

VW has issued an improved supply line assembly to eliminate the leak. Figure 2 Service Procedure: Inspect the connection of the reductant supply line connector at the injector. If white crystalized (dried) AdBlue is found at the injector, replace the supply line. (See Figures 1 and 2). Thoroughly clean the area with water to remove the buildup.
I found an Adblue website. AdBlue tank is 4.5 gallons. And while the dealership is supposed to "refill" it, my guys at Northpoint VW in central AR only added 2 bottles (1 gallon). The service mgr thinks it only holds 2 gallons (4 bottles) and the mechanic said that all he knew is that he's suppose to add 2 bottles "when the light comes on".
