A protection filter would help protect the front lens element. Filters that fit your 55-250mm will your 18-55mm camera kit lens, too. As the 55-250mm lens isn't very expensive, I might look for a 3-4 filter kit. You filters would be interchangeable. I like having a Clear protective filter, a UV filter, a CPL filter, and a ND filter, in that order.
Canon EF-S lenses are generally smaller and lighter than Canon EF lenses because less glass and a smaller lens barrel is required to produce an equivalent field of view for a lens that goes on an APS-C camera, like the Canon Rebel line, when compared to a full frame camera. Additionally, the EF-S line of lenses are generally more affordable.
At review time, that lens is the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. The 18-55 has the low price, small size and light weight advantage, but the 18-135 USM has a much longer focal length range and faster/better AF system. These two lenses are simiarly sharp until the long end of the 18-55's range is reached, where the 18-135 has the

From the perspective of keeping the EF-S 18-55 side: + slightly smaller size. + slightly more usable zoom range given 1.6x crop. + keeping the kit complete will help with later resale value. no USM (although the 28-80's is supposed to be pretty bad) the EF-S is incompatible with the Elan in a pinch.
Both the lenses i own EFS 18-55mm IS and the EFS 55-250mm IS have a rotating front ring right. So what lens hood should i go for considering these type of lenses because the hood would also rotate and the flower hood might rotate with it causing some vignetting problems etc ? The alternate is the 3 stage collapsible rubber hood.
Macro with EF-S 18-55mm IS Kit Lens. Dec 15, 2008. I'm thinking about buying a Rebel XSi with the kit lens, and I'm wondering how adequate this will be for taking macro photos. I cannot find any spec on the magnification provided by this lens in macro mode; all I can find is the minimum focusing distance which is 0.25 m/0.8 ft.

You are mixing up two things: lens magnification and viewfinder magnification. The 18-55 lens has a maximum magnification of .34x at 55 mm. That just means that at 55mm focal length, if you photograph something that is 1" high, the largest it can be (depending on subject distance) is .34" high on the image sensor.
